Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn from Them

So I had my first massage ever on Friday.  My wonderful boyfriend asked if he could "steal" me away from studying for a surprise... which ended up being a massage in Cincinnati and a picnic dinner at Sharon Woods.  Unfortunately, we had to postpone the picnic because the weather was too cold and cloudy, but dinner at Cheesecake Factory was a nice consolation.  The massage was amazing... I really think I could go every day and not get sick of it.  It left me really relaxed and refreshed afterwards, and I am wishing I had another one scheduled this week......... right now, if possible.

This week is pretty crazy as far as school goes.  I have a big Advanced Nutrition exam tomorrow which has been stressing me out this week.  I don't consciously feel stressed, but I haven't slept well at all and am definitely beginning to lose focus as I am trying to study... I'll be happy when it is over tomorrow at 11!  I love 3-day weekends (Fall Break is this next weekend) but then all my professors pack everything in the two weeks around the break.  As a result, I have tomorrow's exam and a big exam next week, along with a bunch of projects and papers due these two weeks.  I don't think this weekend will be a true "break" because I will definitely have to do some studying/work.  Regardless, I am excited to go to Chicago with Dan and to see my mom -- two of my favorite people!!  We are going to go downtown Friday, when I am hopefully going to have a tour of the American Dietetic Association headquarters and meet some people there.  My aunt used to be the event coordinator for the organization, so it could be a nice "in" during my internship application process.     If nothing else, it will be fun to meet people there & see what goes on in their offices.  I'm sure we'll do some shopping and eating at some good restaurants, as well as a bunch of relaxing... those things always seems to be a requirement for our Chicago trips.  Should be a good weekend!

Primetime was so good tonight.  I went to the talk by Ben Voth on the validity of the Bible.  He gave some objective arguments, but focused on the subjective... He said that subjective arguments appeal more/are more understandable to unbelievers in our post-modern world where a lot of people believe "whatever works for you is great."  He gave new perspective on the contradictions in Scripture by saying that any personal testimony is going to have some contradictions, and it is these contradictions, in fact, that prove the Bible IS true.  Obviously, there is a lot more that goes with that, but that was the gist of it.  He was a great speaker and really motivating in terms of knowing Scripture and living it.  He said to truly believe Scripture, and live it out, is the biggest argument for the validity of Scripture to someone who is skeptical.  SUCH a good talk.

And I got to go with three of my Bible study girls, which made the night even better.

I got a pedometer today!  For free!  And it is really accurate in counting my steps!  I'm excited to wear it tomorrow.  Too bad I didn't have it when I hiked all the way to East quad and back.

One more day of classes and then it's the weekend!  I'm excited.

It's a relief to get things done/turned in on a Monday.  It makes you feel a lot less busy and hectic for the rest of the week.  I had a quiz at 10 this morning, dietary recommendations for four clients due also at 10, and a 5-10 page paper due at 5.  I turned the paper in at 2 and felt so free the rest of the afternoon.  I actually got to work out without feeling like I had to rush... took a long shower, also without feeling like I had to rush... and then went out to enjoy my "free" Monday night.

Tonight was a lot of fun.  Katie, Megan, and I went to Max & Erma's near Hamilton to visit Dan at work.  I hadn't yet been in to visit him, so I was really excited.  The whole experience was great -- half-price appetizers, great desserts, fun friends, and seeing Dan!  He wasn't too busy so I was happy he got to talk to us for a bit.  He even wrote me a personalized note when he brought my check.  :)  After dinner, we went to the brand-new Target across the parking lot.  Target is always enjoyable, but especially when you haven't been in awhile.  It was a good trip -- I got a birthday present, which is the reason I went, plus some new yarn (fun yarn in the dollar bin!  Can't beat that!), a little pink water bottle (also from the dollar bin), Starbucks coffee to brew in the mornings, and some staples like milk and peanut butter.  All this, joined with the fact that I got to spend good time with friends and did not have to rush back to Oxford for anything, made it a really enjoyable night.

I will probably be pretty sporadic in updating this, but I thought I'd jump on the Xanga bandwagon and get one.

I was tagged by Dan to do this... so here goes....

10 years ago I was
:

  • A 6th grader in Mr. Lofthus' class -- my favorite teacher in elementary school
  • Living in North Dakota, thinking I was moving to Alaska in the spring... only to have the move cancelled, then delayed a year
  • Hanging out with all the kids in the neighborhood
  • A people-pleaser
  • Dancing (ballet) 4 days a week

5 years ago I was:

  • Driving my first car -- an '88 red Toyota celica
  • Learning to cope (at a minimal level) with past hurts
  • Taking the SATs for the first time without a clue where I wanted to go to college (hadn't even heard of Miami at that point!)
  • Traveling to Kansas City, Missouri for a journalism conference
  • Missing my dad, who was deployed to Saudi Arabia

1 year ago I was:

  • Living in Pitcher Perfect... getting frustrated that no one washed their dishes, but enjoying living with friends
  • Leading a Bible study for the first time and loving the girls in it
  • Enjoying being in the same place as Dan for the first (extended period of) time in our relationship
  • Still processing a lot from summer project
  • Debating deactivating from Kappa Delta

Yesterday I:

  • Took an exam in perinatal nutrition....
  • Then studied like crazy for my two exams today
  • Went to the dorms and Kofenya with Katie
  • Hit a major wall at 9:00 and debated going to bed right then (...I waited until 10:30)
  • Slept with the windows open and enjoyed waking up COLD!  You know it's fall when that happens... I love it.

Snacks I enjoy:

  • warm brownies with ice cream
  • bananas with peanut butter
  • peaches, cut into slices
  • Swedish Fish
  • chocolate covered raisins

Songs I know all the words to:

  • Best of What's Around -- DMB
  • Mr. Jones -- Counting Crows
  • Spoken For -- Mercyme
  • Dreamer -- Bethany Dillon
  • You and I Both -- Jason Mraz

5 things I would do with 100 million dollars

  • Save/invest for the future
  • Give to the church and friends on staff
  • Go on a vacation
  • Continue going to school next year to get my Master's in nutrition
  • Surprise friends and family (and even people I don't know) with random gifts

5 places I would run away to:

  • Weisstannen, Switzerland
  • Eagle River, Alaska
  • Hawaii (a quiet beach)
  • The Grand Canyon (because I've never been)
  • Any place by the ocean

5 Things I will NEVER wear:

  • Slouch socks
  • A fanny pack
  • Basically anything blatantly-80s
  • A thong swimsuit
  • A too-short skirt

 Favorite TV shows:

  • Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
  • Once & Again
  • Friends
  • The Wonder Years
  • Everwood

5 bad habits:

  • Not listening to my voicemails for days
  • Being quietly critical
  • Crying when it's not needed
  • Biting my nails
  • Wearing my contacts for way more hours/days than I should

5 biggest joys:

  • Experiencing the Lord's love
  • My family, friends, and Dan (he's a friend but deserves a special category)
  • The ocean
  • Free time... especially adequate "alone time"
  • Falling asleep to the sound of rain  (probably not one of the Top 5... but high up there as far as favorite things)

5 people I tag to do this:
